The Kraken.....lives?

The remake of Clash Of The Titans is not very good at all, in fact it's quite terrible. It's sequel, Wrath Of The TItans is ever-so-slightly better but still on the negative side of the scale. While in production of Wrath Warner Brothers began developing a third movie. But it's quite likely that film will never be made. So what?

Well I was watching Wrath on TV the other day and my mind started going as it often does, and never seems to stop. And I thought, 'yunno, screw a third Titans movie, just make a movie about the Kraken'. The Kraken, from the original film and the remake, is an immense monster meant to destroy, well.....everything. But in the mythology of the films it was a weapon the gods used to defeat the titans in the first place. And since the release of the Clash remake has gone on to become an internet meme and quote go-to. "Release the Kraken" and countless variations are, everywhere.

Right now Warner Brothers is making a new Godzilla movie, and if successful, which it hopefully will be, I'm sure they plan on making as many as TOHO, the folks who own Godzilla and make the films in Japan, will allow them to. But at some point TOHO will want their star back. And where does that leave Warner Brothers? The truth is to get their kaiju, giant monster, fix they can go ahead with a new Pacific Rim movie at any time, as the film is a blast and easily lends itself to franchising. And speaking realistically, unless WB gets their DC Comic movies going in a serious way they'll be looking for their next Harry Potter-type cash cow. So I started thinking, if not Godzilla or Pacific Rim, why not the Kraken?

The monster has been established, more or less, the meme's continues to fly, and it's scale and power lend itself easily to massive spectacle set-pieces. So why not go nuts and create a new movie, and even a series of movies, around the Kraken. Centering it at the heart of a mythic themed kaiju series. Find a way to resurrect the Kraken, whom you remember was destroyed at the end of Clash, in the modern world. Build up a new mythology in the context of the modern age. It's been done before several times, but my current favorite is DC Comics current run of Wonder Woman comics, go check them out to see what I mean, The short of it is they're fantastic. To set this series apart from most other kaiju films, or monster movies in general, have the Kraken face other monsters of myth, and invent some new ones. Just embrace the insanity of what you're doing and run wild.

I know none of this will likely happen. But it's nice to think out loud. I'd certainly give it a chance, how about you?
