On the left you see the NSEA PROTECTOR from the terrific, and I mean TERRIFIC, movie Galaxy Quest. On the right you see NASA's new ORION spacecraft. When I first looked at these two side by side I couldn't help but smile. If you haven't already noticed; the docking port and general design of the ORION, while similar to the classic APOLLO module, shares a loose resemblance to the PROTECTORS navigational dish and hull configuration.
Maybe I'm just seeing something I want to see, but as a geek this tickled me to pieces :-) . Who knows, maybe one day we won't be flying around in the U.S.S ENTERPRISE but at least we'll be exploring the universe in something that was made in tribute to it.
